Ivry Gitlis

(b. 1922, Haifa, Palestine)

Violinist whose playing as a boy impressed the celebrated virtuoso Bronislaw Huberman (see Great Jewish Violinists). He studied at the National Conservatory in Paris and then with George Enescu, Jacques Thibaud and Carl Flesch. Throughout a long and distinguished career he has been a champion of contemporary music. In 1988 he was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

(b. 1921, New York, NY, USA; d. 1965, New York, NY, USA)

Award winning American stage and screen actress whose image as a 'dumb blonde' belied her gifts as a performer. She played memorable film roles in Born Yesterday (1950), The Solid Gold Cadillac (1956) and Bells Are Ringing (1960) before illness curtailed her career.
