Ivry Gitlis
(b. 1922, Haifa, Palestine)

Violinist whose playing as a boy impressed the celebrated virtuoso Bronislaw Huberman (see Great Jewish Violinists). He studied at the National Conservatory in Paris and then with George Enescu, Jacques Thibaud and Carl Flesch. Throughout a long and distinguished career he has been a champion of contemporary music. In 1988 he was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
